There was no need for people to learn Tajweed at the time of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) since they communicated with what is now known as Tajweed, so it was normal for them. As Islam spread, errors in the Qur’an recitation began to occur as the Arabs began mixing with the non-Arabs, so the scholars had to document the laws. Today, since the daily Arabic spoken by Arabs has changed too much from the Classical Arabic shown by the Qur’an, even Arabs must learn Tajweed.
