Is Dua Qunoot required to pray Salat?

Dua e Qunoot is the central prayer of the Witr Namaz. It is necessary for finishing the Witr Salat. You may pray a shorter version of the Qunoot Dua during the Witr Salaat if you find that you cannot recall the full version.

In the Witr prayer, the recitation of Qunoot Dua is required to be done during the third rak’ah. On the other hand, praying the Qunoot Dua as described above is not obligatory but rather recommended. The upshot of this is that although it is permissible to pray the Salat without reciting the Dua e Qunoot, the reward for doing so is less since a Sunnah was skipped. Therefore, in order to take advantage of the advantages that come with following the Sunnah, a person needs to make every effort to commit the Qunoot Dua to memory as quickly as they can. The required obligation (wajib) of uttering the Qunoot Dua in the prayer may be satisfied by offering any kind of supplication. However, the most effective way to pray is to recite the Sunnah prayer.

How exactly should this dua be performed during the Witr Salah?

The Witr prayer is obligatory and consists of three rakats, with salams said at the completion of the third.

The individual should rise to their feet before beginning the third rak’ah. In order to recite the tashahud ‘at-tahiyat’ at the conclusion of the second rak’ah. Then, once he has finished reciting Surah al-Fatiha and another Surah. He should lower his hands to his navel and repeat the Dua al-Quint or Dua e Qunoot. While raising his hands to his ear lobes and reciting Allahu Akbar (just as he did at the beginning of the prayer). This completes one round of the prayer. After that, he should go into ruku and do the Salah in a customary manner.
